Andrew Dunn

1834 - 1918

In 1856, Andrew C. Dunn became one of the area’s first settlers, arriving in the fall with four companions in search of a location to establish a town. Born in New York City in 1834, Dunn moved to Minnesota in 1854 and briefly practiced law in Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud before embarking on this new venture. For six weeks, Dunn and his friends camped while devising a plan for their town. As winter approached, they assisted Mr. Young in constructing a modest 10' x 14' cabin. At the time of the village's layout, Faribault County was sparsely populated, with fewer than a hundred residents and only a single house standing between this area and Albert Lea.
